"In small-town Preston, Idaho, awkward teen Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) has trouble fitting in. After his grandmother is injured in an accident, his life is made even worse when his strangely nostalgic uncle, Rico (Jon Gries), shows up to keep an eye on him"

Napoleon Dynamite is a comedy directed by Jared Hess and is not a bad movie overall as it manages to communicate its themes and morals clearly and directly however its low budget causes the filming and editing look shoddy although this can be overlooked seeing as it was directed in the early 2000's were technology was not all that great. The story line of the film is very basic and in my opinion not very comedic at all even though some scenes gained a good reaction from some viewers. I see the film as more of a romantic comedy as Napoleon does not only want to be accepted by his peers but by the females too and his love life can be considered a joke up until the end of the film when he settles down with Debbie. The film struggles to be comedic due to the fact that it does not contain much humour the director feels that he could make the audience laugh by highlighting Napoleons misfortunes.

The films biggest flaw is its inability to focus on other characters, even though the film should be based on the main character Jared Hess struggled to incorporate other characters into the plot and made them and seem like extras, this made the film seem less interesting and feel like it did not have enough substance.
