Unit 5 Audio Research + Planning

1. 2 friendships group have a brawl in a school environment however the fight is of a very disturbing and gruesome nature.

2 a boy in need of money for his family goes to the extreme extent of committing robbery and arson and only dodges prison by circumstance

3 The world has been taken over by aliens and they are slowly destroying each country one by one. This is a story about a young boy and his friend who are in the last country to be destroyed. But the country is attacked instead of destroyed. The boys have to find a way to save the remaining country.

Primary Research;

I conducted a survey amongst my class mates to decide on what podcast idea appeals to them the most. What happened to appeal to them the most was the science fiction alien invasion story as that got the majority vote as the other ideas were deemed to be to cliche

i also conducted a focus group and the audio can be located unit 5 tab.

In my focus group i ask a few of my class mates a couple questions about what they would like to see in my podcast and what would make them want to watch it, one of my first questions was what location would be most convenient seeing as my play is in a rural environment the three options after this i would then go on to ask to what accents i should give my characters seeing as they are in a foreign country i then asked them what sound they would like to hear and what sounds are suitable for the setting of my podcast, my focus group was helpful in assisting me in decisions i would not have been able to make myself and made most of my choices for me as i want to please my audience and not myself.

The story begins in the Hawaiian Rainforest where the characters spend most of their time fighting and fleeing from the aliens eventually they do get caught by the aliens and get taken to a spaceship they soon escape alien captivity and find theirselves on a beach where tony kills martin in order to stay alive

Roswell incident 1947

Secondary research:

As a part of my secondary research i have been listening to sci-fi podcasts on survival and picking out what i find useful for starters I listened to "We're Alive: Lockdown" (http://www.werealive.com/episodes/) and found that the ambient noises are suitable for my production as it creates the imagery of a remote island and helps to establish the scene i also found the dialogue helpful because it gave me an idea of how my characters should speak to aid the listener into creating a visual representation of my podcast. The podcast rarely contains any foul language or sexual references but due to the mature situations, listener discretion is advised and seeing as my audio podcast is of a similar nature my age restriction will be 16 just to be on the safe side

I Have also taken SAW'VI into consideration as i like the idea of horror and survival and the way it was amalgamated, i like the idea of self torture in order to survive as it shows how much people value their lives and i feel that i can incorporate that in my podcast

I also took a little bit of inspiration from the Netflix original series 'Narcos' as in the pilot episode it talks about the end of the world " they say when a nuclear holocaust destroys the world, only the cockroaches will survive, i guess they were right"

Characters

Tony: is the older of the two friends and has trust issues because to go into jail by one of his closet family members, very hot headed and is willing to do anything to protect his family, He is sometimes arrogant but he can back his talk when it is needed. HE gets paranoid at the slightest things

Character Inspiration: Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) - Prison Break

Martin; The intelligent one of the two friends he knows how to use things in his favor and make the best of a bad situation however he is not one for action and is half hearted but will do things when he absolutely has to, he is a ride or die kind of friend and thats what makes him and tony compatible

Character Inspiration: Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) - Prison Break

Synopsis :

My podcast is about two friends who are the last two people on earth , the planet has been attacked by aliens, they have to fight the aliens and flee alien captivity but the story has a little twist towards the end

Locations;

Genre:

The genre of my podcast is a hybrid of science fiction and horror.

Target audience;

My target audience will be of the age group 16-20, seeing as the podcast was chosen by my classmates and will only be heard by my classmates, I feel as if the age range of my class is a suitable age classification.

MY target audience is for male and female viewers but i think that it would cater to males more because of its violent and scary nature, however it depends on peoples psychographic, their interests will bring them to listen to my podcast

Evaluation:

My Audio Play did not go according to plan due to me losing some of my clips because of this misfortune i had to rearrange my clips in order to ensure that my audio play made sense furthermore i was unable to create a jingle or a montage of sound effect that would compliment my work due to it being science fiction i couldn't decide on what sound effects would be most convenient for my production due to its nature.

when it comes to the sound effects that i used for example gun shots and footsteps i found it difficult to include them in my production because it was my first time using the application so everything was new to me and because of this my audio play does not sound professional how ever i managed to finish to it to the best of my abilities

the process leading up to the editing was not so difficult all my research and planning was in check, I listened to podcasts of similar nature for example "We're Alive: Lockdown" which is were I got the rainforest idea from and also i listens to Saw Vi which inspired me to make my play bit gruesome but thats why there is a lot of shootings and stabbings in my play.

Recording the audio for this production too less than 20 minutes as me and Andre Mensah who plays Martin were able to read of the script, we rehearsed it twice and before performing it with the microphone on however there were still a few slip ups that could not be rectified at all for example during my narration i said " rotting fresh" instead of "rotting flesh" but over all i don't think my production was bad it was just the editing that failed me
